I love your concept of the Stutter Buddy. I wonder how are speech would be different if we had had that when we were younger? First person accounts like these -- yours and the story you quote -- are the best teaching tools there are. Regards, John H. Re: Your article From: Bonnie L. Bonnie supporting children who stutter From: Lee Caggiano Date: 10/13/98 Time: 7:37:38 AM Remote Name: 152.163.213.84 Comments Bonnie Beautiful story. You know how strongly I feel regardign the need for support for children and their families. I am so glad that we have you on our side, we will all benefit. There are so many children and families out their continuing to feel isolated. If we all work together (FRIENDS, NSP, CAPS) we may be able to reach out to more children...I certainly hope so. Thanks for all you do. Lee Re: supporting children who stutter From: Bonnie Date: 10/13/98 Time: 8:02:17 PM Remote Name: 128.205.248.27 Comments Hi Lee... I hope that you know that you and your family were the ones I was talking about when I mentioned my first convention. I still think about that. I did not expect that there would be parents and children at that convention. Your openness about your son's stuttering inspired me. Stutter Buddies From: Shelli Sutherland & Kris Giefer - J.Kuster's Stuttering Seminar Grad. Class Date: 10/13/98 Time: 1:26:41 PM Remote Name: 198.174.49.83 Comments Loved your paper, what a great idea! How did you obtain funding for Stutter Buddies? Re: Stutter Buddies From: Bonnie Date: 10/13/98 Time: 8:10:00 PM Remote Name: 128.205.248.27 Comments Hi Shelli and Kris... All of the funding for Stutter Buddies have come from donations. Interestingly enough, the first three issues were paid from an account set up by our chapter when my mother passed away. Donations to NSP/Buffalo Chapter in her memory were used for the first three issues. The Board of Directors of the NSP thought that this was such a good idea that they have agreed to donate some monies for four issues...our current one and three more. We have also recieved some small donations from SLPs in the area. After that, who knows? We may have to have some serious cookie sales!! :-) Good to hear from you. Has Judy showed you Stutter Buddies??? Bonnie Re: Stutter Buddies From: Judy Kuster Date: 10/13/98 Time: 8:32:25 PM Remote Name: 134.29.30.79 Comments I haven't shared Stutter Buddies, Letting Go, Speaking Out, Reaching Out, etc. with the class yet 'cuz we are just finishing up the section on "assessment." At the end of the class we will be talking about support organizations for kids and adults who stutter. Thanks for reminding me to pass around some of the newsletters. Great idea! Judy Support Groups From: Chuck Goldman Date: 10/18/98 Time: 11:13:11 AM Remote Name: 152.163.206.194 Comments Thanks for reminding me that support groups for children are essential as they are for adults and teens.
