1. Participate in the ISAD On-Line Threaded Discussion Conference. October 1-22, 2000. This years conference will focus on children. For more information, contact the Stuttering Home Page website.
2. Organize an ISAD Walk for children in your community. For more details, contact Christine Simpson through the Walk & Talk website
3. Draft a Proclamation declaring October 22, 2000 as "International Stuttering Awareness Day" in your area. See sample proclamation.
4. Host an ISAD Workshop or Open House for Children Who Stutter. Check out Organizaing Your Workshop for guidelines and activities.
5. Provide your local or school library with a book about a person who stutters such as The Bob Love Story or Dead Languages
6. Display a "Famous People Who Stutter" poster. Contact National Stuttering Association or Friends: The Assn. of Young People Who Stutter or Stuttering Foundation of America.
7. Wear an ISAD button.
8. Organize a parent support group to discuss how stuttering may affect their children and ways to promote healthy self-esteem. Share the issues of blame, guilt, shame, and secrecy.
9. Give a classroom presentation on stuttering. This is a wonderful opportunity to share youself with your son or daughter's class.
10. Show Danny and the Scatman video at your local meeting.
11. Helpful Strategies if your Child is Teased about Stuttering. (1) Encourage your child to talk about the incident, (2) show some of your memories about being teased, (3) teach your child to be self-protective and help your child become proactive, (4) rehearse with your child -- responding well takes practice.
