Hi Dawn

Yes, I do. You know, we live in a hall of mirrors. People perceive me as a fluent, articulate – talkative! - person. They would be very, very surprised to learn that I have all sorts of problems with my speech, and that there numerous occasions when I’m as frustrated as all hell about the fact that I can’t say what I want to.

I think I’ll leave it at that, because it seems to crystalise the moment. To some extent we are shaped by other people’s perceptions of us. To that extent, I am fluent and articulate. And in some way, on some level, that is how I feel. But sitting right next to that perception is the incredible frustration of NOT being fluent, and NOT being the person I’m perceived to be. And the fear! It’s all very strange.

Maybe someone – a present-day Proust – needs to write about it…

Good luck with your Masters!

Terry
