Russ Hicks, I was following the discussion on covert stuttering on the stutt-L listserv, and I read your response which briefly outlined the iceberg analogy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning more about it in your informative article. You compared covert stutterers to icebergs with 99% under the waterline. Obviously, that would account to a lot of emotional baggage that needs to be focused on rather than fluency shaping and easy onset. If you eliminate some of the deep layers, what happens to the iceberg in terms of physics? And how would you explain it using the analogy?
