Thank you for your question. I do not want to give advice about an individual child, as every child and family is different and individual circumstances always need to be taken into account. But on a more general note, the course of onset of stuttering you describe (on again, off again) is quite common. And as far as we know this type of onset does not indicate whether or not the child will recover naturally. I always say that if parents are concerned about their child’s stuttering they should consult a qualified SLP, preferably one who has experience in working with children who stutter .
