Dear Jill,
All that we can do to learn to attend to the moment, which means to me to be aware of our bodily sensations, our feelings, our thoughts, and the world outside, helps us monitor and then, if it seems appropriate and wise, change what it is we are thinking, feeling, and doing in the moment. For me, this has come through practicing Hatha Yoga and meditation. Both practices are helping me become increasingly mindful, or aware. Each facilitates small, incremental changes in awareness and personal control that, over time, accumulate and are quite effective. So, patience and persistence are, indeed, factors in this sort of acquired change.
I hope I have answered your question.
Sincerely,
Ellen-Marie Silverman
