I chose to read this article because my uncle suffered from PTSD and was a person who stuttered. When he was excited, he would stutter more. He did not discuss his PTSD with me but the cause of it was Vietnam. When I think about it now, he had developed the patterns of avoidance and hyperarousal. However, he only suffered these from PTSD not stuttering. When he stuttered, he did not have any negative reaction to it. I never actually thought of him as a stutterer until I began a class in stuttering. Even though his flow of speech was interupted by repetitions, he never showed any secondary behaviors.
