Recently (or not sooo recently) it seems I read that this or that type of dysfluent speech is NOT neurogenic or psychogenic STUTTERING, but an unknown something else. Great...for those of us trying to treat or "code" for insurance! Sad for our field to say we donot know what it is and let it go until further studies. About a year ago I asked the listserv for a definition of stuttering and received one response implying I was asking for trouble by asking a non-question. It WAS a question! If we donot have a definition, then how can we begin to say "who" stutters. Even Tourettes articles have put stuttering under its umbrella...so it is NOT stuttering but a form of Tourettes. If I am off the mark of your intentions in your article , tell me. If you have a working definition of stuttering, I'd lke to read it! By the way, I see people who stutter post a neurogenic incident who fit and donot fit what we seem to consider a 'normal' profile of stuttering just like those who have NO neurogenic or psychogenic, etc history......
