Hi Rachel, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for enabling me to learn from you. Borrowing your words, life is about honoring individuals and about understanding, reflection, and growth. Indeed, being real is about love, knowledge, and faith. In different forums (and in my response to Helena, the previous posting), I have shared that I am convinced that everyone has a story to tell; I wish all people an opportunity to tell their story and to be heard. Stories connect us as a unified people across time and place. Opportunities to tell and to hear stories abound. The point is that every waking moment presents an opportunity to learn and to grow. I am so pleased to see that you are reflecting on the complexity of the human condition. As a second year graduate student, you already have had some experiences, both in the classroom and practicum, to study the nature of people and families and, thereby, to understand yourself. I hope you realize what an exciting and dynamic career you have chosen. I have shared that I am even more excited about our profession now, in my 31st year as a speech-language pathologist, than I was in my first year on the job. Keep up the passion. It is probably the nexus of being real. Good luck. David Shapiro
