Dear Lynne, this sounds like excellent advice. I think especially a not so experienced clinician might sometimes miss the whole person by focusing on the disorder. I wonder, how much there is also an element of chemistry between client and therapist that is important. I find that with some people I just have an easier, more comfortable rapport. This goes both ways, as a client I feel more at ease with a therapist I share this positive chemistry with, and hence open up, and as a therapist I am more able to listen to what my client says, openly and between the lines. What would you advise to do if as a therapist I feel that I really do not have a good rapport with a new client? thank you, Mona
