Thank you for this article--being an SLP, a person who stutters, and the mother of a 16 yr. old boy with Asperger's, I was intrigued to learn of your experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum who also exhibit dysfluent speech. There is such variation throughout the spectrum; I am reminded that there is not just one approach to treating this population---there is such complexity within each person on the spectrum that the clinician needs to take a broader, holistic perspective when deciding what communication areas to treat first. Deficiencies in social skills, for example, may take precedence over dysfluent speech during the initial treatment stage. Thank you again for this very informative piece.
