Colleen, Thank you for reading our paper! You are correct in your statements. Our study participants indicated that the less they pressured themselves to speak fluently and the less they tried to hide the fact that they stuttered, the less anxiety they felt. From the start of our summer program to follow-up (15 weeks after the program ended), the total mean score for our participants on the SSI-3 (Stuttering Severity Instrument-3rd edition) went from ‘moderate’ to ‘very mild’. So, to answer your question, yes – fluency increased and perfectionistic tendencies decreased.
