Gwendolyn, In conducting our study, we used an ABA time-series within-subjects design. In this way, the subjects acted as their own controls. We implemented the study within an 8-week time frame to minimize the threat of people dropping out of the study due to time. Our subjects were volunteers so we don’t know how a randomized control study would impact people who stutter and that is certainly a recommendation for future research. Regarding external validity, we had a small group so the ability to generalize is limited. Nevertheless, we know that the study had an extremely positive effect on our subjects. Overwhelmingly they stated that the work they did in this program had a tremendous benefit on their lives. So, I think it is a start and more efficacy studies are needed in this area. I encourage you to continue research in this very important field. Evelyn
