This article provided great insight regarding our abilities to place ourselves in another's position. In order to sufficiently treat someone we must understand how they feel and how the stutter affects them. It seems that due to the lack of exposure regarding stuttering, the general public is unsure of the impact a stutter may have on someone. They may not realize that they could be treating a PWS in a rude way by providing a simple gesture, such as pushing paper and pen toward them when they are trying to express their ideas. I did not understand all of this until I was enrolled in a fluency class, but I think it is important that the subject of fluency become more prevalent in the media. It is great that Joe Biden is discussing his stutter, as I hope this will provide society with information regarding stuttering, and also empower those who stutter to understand that they may strive toward the greatest of positions.
