Pamera, thank you for your comments. I received speech therapy many years ago when I was in my twenties, but it did not help. I still stutter but I have been trying to spend my energy more for exploring ways to lead everyday life fully, which eventually changed my stuttering behavior. Since I began to teach at a university I had more occasions to speak in front of large groups of people and stuttered much less in public speaking, while I stuttered in daily conversation. However, recently, I stutter more often. In this way, stuttering seems to keep changing. The obvious thing is the way we stutter is different depending on the life stage, such as school age and adolescence. What we can do as persons who suffered from stuttering is to keep saying to our fellows who stutter “it is all right to stutter.” If we learn about stuttering and face the fact that we stutter our future will not be as dark as we might expect.
