I really enjoyed this article as well! I am very interested in Speech Therapy in the school system, so the fact that children who stutter can "slip through the crack" by hiding their stuttering scares me. You said "Stuttering is not caught unless the person speaks... their stuttering will remain unnoticed and people will simply regard them as quiet and inactive." How can we as teachers and Speech Language Pathologists in the school system get children to interact more, so we can accurately assess their language skills (as far as fluency goes)?

I am now formulating an evaluation method to assess
how stuttering affects children who stutter, not testing
stuttering symptoms. In order to assess it we need to
know the level of affect on the children in their school
lives. For the children to be able to
interact more we should help them to develop their
self-affirmation, to learn to trust others and to
contribute to others.
