First of all, I want to thank you for sharing such an interesting aspect of speech therapy that I was previously not aware of. I am an undergraduate student studying Speech Pathology and have always had an interest in music as well. I grew up playing piano, singing in choir, and am currently learning guitar, so it is exciting to think that someday music could be a part of my career. It was fascinating to learn about the brain processing live music participation in the same way as it does language. Your comment about the West African practice being regarded as a myth because it involved an artistic component was interesting as well. It is helpful to know that self-expression and confidence building help in treating anxiety disorders, which is one aspect of a client who stutters. I thought it was important how at the end of the article you mentioned the therapist fading the musical support out and shifting to musical styles more similar to speech. Thanks again for an informative and interesting article!
