Great question. I actually do a lot of work with preschoolers right now, a few who have fluency disorders. I don't tend to do much (any really...) processing of emotions with them. I mean, sure, some basic teaching about what emotions are and how we express them, but nothing that would pertain to actual processing around what it's like to have a fluency disorder. So most of the work with these kids is really just becoming more comfortable with their voice (I mean that in a physiological as well as an emotional sense). It tends to be a pretty quick process with the little ones, since they don't have as many hangups as we do!
