You've lived a great story, Chris, and you describe it with a light touch that is delightful to read. Isn't it fascinating that fear of one sort or another (fear of stuttering as something that you can't control, fear of what other people think of you, fear of what stuttering may do to your ability to earn a living, fear that stuttering may prevent your finding a desirable mate, and so on) is at the heart of any story about stuttering and its effects? Eliminate fear and there's not much left. Stuttering becomes simply the way you talk, with no emotionality attached except a degree of impatience when there is time pressure involved. With regard to your own history, do you feel I am omitting something here or oversimplifying? Again, I really enjoyed reading your article. You're a terrific writer.
