Hi Lauren, usually I would not use indirect therapy first and then move to the LP. However, I know some people like to work this way. I am always concerned that parents will use up their energy and commitment with the indirect approach and if this fails they are rather cynical about trying the LP. Your second question depends upon the age of the child and how long they have been stuttering. As we know severe stuttering close to onset does is not indicative of persistence. However, stuttering that starts severe and remains severe for over a year does suggest persistence and I would certainly start straight away with the LP. Sometimes I have seen little children who have never spoken without stuttering and his stuttering is severe and when this is causing a lot of distress I would start the LP. Best wishes
