Hello Pam, Thanks for your feedback. Yes this is such a complex topic and I struggle with it myself at times. The word is still very misunderstood and misinterpreted in society. Disability, as you allude to, may also be very transient throughout one’s life. Some many PWS do not identify or do not want to identify with the term. Again a personal choice but this choice could have even more negative repercussions attributed to it. I think it is up to us who choose to wear the term to help to redefine socially. PWS have to get their heads around that disability does not mean that you are a lesser class citizen or a special case. I also agree that the anxiety and fears attributed to stuttering behaviour for some may be way more of a disabling issue than the stuttering itself.
