Hi Peter, I totally agree with how vague the terms fluency and stuttering are. As a student, I thought that those are specific terms, however they do not explain anything with regards to functionality of the term in the treatment of disorder. It will be easier to have goals such as "reduce bumby speech" or "reduce rate of speech" as compared to "increase fluency". Do you think describing the "speech" or "stuttering behavior" to caregivers/parents of pws children will decrease their worries on having a child who stutter? I have encountered parents who are very worried when they hear "stuttering/fluency disorder".
