I am a blind consumer benefiting from teletherapy with a sighted slp in another country from my own. We started out by using the phone, but my therapist soon thought the added benefit of the video would help him see what I was doing. This turned out to be true. I too, as a blind person, enjoy the better sound quality afforded by skype over a regular phone. You can hear quite a lot that way. There are sometimes issues of poor quality connection caused by the mysteries of the internet, but I think the video helps my therapist be more in tune with me, and the better sound quality helps me be more in tune with him. Working across time zones means both parties have to be very motivated to make it work, but this too can be of great benefit. It ensures we both really want to be there, since one of us (usually me) sometimes has to work in the early morning. When we are using skype, I feel more connected with my therapist than when we are on the phone. Overall, teletherapy works well for me as a client. I imagine as a blind therapist or teacher, I would have some of the same concerns as Tom shared, but the better sound quality may help.
