People who stutter covertly generally have "milder" stuttering problems, so they can navigate conversations without have noticeable blocks, repetitions, or prolongations. Speaking can be a very formidable activity however, as it takes a great deal of effort to switch words, think of how to say something avoiding troublesome words, and avoid speaking situations in tactful ways. Perhaps another term for it would be "hidden stuttering"?
