As a current graduate student studying speech-language pathology, I found this article very applicable to what we have learned about thus far in our fluency course. The iceberg analogy helps to understand stuttering, especially covert stuttering, and the emotions and feelings associated with it. I thought the image representing the individual caught between the “fluent” world and the “stuttering” world was very interesting. This allows me to have a better understanding of what a person who covert stutters thinks and feels about communicating. I noticed the different type of treatment paradigms and was curious as to which you thought was most effective or if it just varies on the individual person?
