Hi - always great to read your stuff and even more so now that we finally met this summer! This piece reminded me of the first time I did a stuttering survey. It was at my first NSA conference in 2006. I went to an advertising workshop with no clue they were going to "make" us go out on the streets and survey strangers about stuttering. My friend who came to the same workshop left, she was as freaked out as I was. I stayed and went with group and tried it. It was very overwhelming - both to advertise for the first time and to see that it was basically ok. (One person reacted negatively and walked away, but it could have been for any number of reasons, not necessarily that she didn't want to hear stuttering.) Part of the reason I did it was because I knew I would never see these people again. I think had I had the chance to try stuff like this and play with my stuttering as a child, I would have saved myself many years of unhappiness. Thanks for sharing this! ~Pam
