Hello Maartje, First I would like to thank you for sharing your story with everyone! I am an undergraduate student studying speech, language, and hearing. Currently I am enrolled in a fluency disorders class. Often we discuss how the emotional/attitude perspective of people who stutter. I personally do not know anyone who stutters and while learning the content in class is educational, I like hearing the stories of those who stutter spoken in their own words. So, thank you for having the courage to share your experiences. Also, congratulations on all you have accomplished. You mentioned at the beginning of your article a few examples of what a woman turning 30 "should" have accomplished. Yet, those standards are a little bit more complicated to reach than us ladies are given credit for I think! Personally, as a 22 year old girl I don't know what the next 10 years hold, but I hope to be healthy and happy just as you are. On another note, I was wondering about your previous experiences from speech therapy. In class we are discussing options for therapy. Specifically, we have spent a lot of time working on the desensitization of negative emotions and coping mechanisms. If you would feel comfortable sharing any techniques you learned in therapy that you still use today, even if you have modified them to your own personal likely, I would appreciate the input! I'm interested in hearing from the "experts" what works and what doesn't! Or if you developed anything on your own that helped you relax in times of disfluency that helps you to speak more fluently? I know you mentioned in your article that you are at terms and comfortable with your stuttering, and I think that is wonderful! Just curious in learning about any other treatments that have helped! Thank you so much for you time! Sincerely, Justine Koglin
