This was a very inspiring article to me, noting that one of my friends has recently publicized that he is gay. I agree that coming out to oneself and being true to one’s identity does appear to ease psychological pressures. I think that this sometimes is the one of the most difficult parts in coming out of the closet, so to say, in dealing with many things such as stuttering. Becoming more self-aware is something that is always a work in progress for all individuals and being true to you is extremely therapeutic, yet on the same hand, extremely challenging. I think that publicizing to others no matter what it is dealing with, sexuality, stuttering, or other identities that make a person who they are is extremely difficult as well. I think that once a person becomes self-aware of who they are they can then, if they choose to, "come out of the closet" and ease a lot of psychological pressure. I think that this also instills somewhat of a sense of happiness and potential comfort to an individual. (Almost like a weight has been lifted off his/her shoulders). It is sad to me that our society portrays such negative images on those of us who are “different” than others. Not everyone can confine to the social norms that are preached on a daily basis and to judge someone for not meeting certain quota is, in my opinion, cruel. I look up to those who have the stamina and confidence to come out to others no matter how they are different than what some claim to be the social norm. Again, very inspiring and relatable article, thank you!
