Thank you for your comments. I guess there is the joy of playing golf that does relieve stress....takes you away from the real world for a while...yet, the hard part of it...learning the new motor act of the golf swing using good tempo, easy grip, sensorimotor feedback, really seems to resonate with some of the adolescents and adults I work with who stutter, as they learn to model the act of speech without stress, tension, etc. The Cognitive Aspect....that follows all of us golfers who don't feel good enough to play with the better golfers, build up all kinds of negative self talk comments, doubt our abilities, etc. Ask your husband if he relates to that aspect of it??? It's so real for me. Then, I think you reach a point where you are good enough to play with anyone because you don't really care anymore what other people think....That's what we work for in therapy....When the value of fluency is lessened and happy communication is the goal.....stuttering improves. I appreciate your comments. elise
