Good article, Jim! I don't think there's a single stutterer out there who hasn't at one time feared the phone. (If they don't still!) I agree that desensitization is the key. I was fortunate as a kid (though I didn't think so at the time) to have a speech therapist who made me make calls over and over again. I called pet stores, music stores, etc., to ask questions. I hated it, but it really helped. I even took a job in grad school making calls for a research study to push myself further. That REALLY helped me get over my fear. But I STILL get that little twinge of nervousness when the phone rings at work!
