Wow...I have never actually heard of internet scams that play on the emotions of individuals that stutter. Offering the "cure" for the condition. I guess I was just naive to the fact that people would actually try to make money off of individuals who stutter. Moreover, I never really thought that individuals who stutter would reach a point of desperation in their lives that they would pay thousands of dollars for the "cure". I love how this paper broke down the psychological components that they use to "hook and reel them in". As a future SLP, I am glad that I came across this paper so that I can warn future fluency clients about these scams. The part of the paper that stood out to me the most was that the "guru" will always blame the individual that stutters before he will admit that his "cure" is flawed. Thank you for this paper. It has really opened my eyes and hopefully by reading this I will be able to save future clients from spending their lifesavings away on the bogus claims of a "cure".
