MILTON -- Esther Marie Buchholz Hillmann, age 91, died Fri., Jan. 24, 1997, at Mercy Hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1905, in Pigeon, MI, the daughter of Friedrich and Doris (Bergmann) Buchholz, who were farmers. Her primary education was at Cross Lutheran School and secondary education was Woodville Lutheran Academy at Woodville, OH. She went to 12th grade at Michigan Lutheran Seminary at Saginaw, MI. In 1925 she began her teaching career in a one-room school at Sebewaing, MI. Esther graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 1928. She taught for 2 years at Bay City, MI, then at the Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI. She then taught in Madison, Wisconsin at Eastside Lutheran School and Madison Lutheran School from 1936 until retiring in 1967. She married Ludwig Hillmann of Milton July 22, 1967, in Madison; he died in July of 1986. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Janesville.
Ester is survived by a step-son, Friedo (Donna) Hillmann; 5 step-grandchildren: Jeffrey (Mary), John, Deanne, Debra, and Dawn; 3 step great-grandchildren; a brother, Reinhardt Buchholz of Pigeon, MI; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wed., Jan. 29, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Janesville. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. Friends may call from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Albrecht Funeral Home, Hwy 26, Milton. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran School, Janesville, or Eastside Lutheran School, Madison.
