I think the one thing that overts and coverts can agree on is we recognize that stuttering has social and vocational/career consequences. In spite of a few decades of attempting to "educate" the public about stuttering, the stereotypes persist.
Chris, you mentioned the value of friends who were more interested in what we have to say ! True, so true. Another thing that kept me going was learning I could compete with the "fluents" in just about every other arena, academics, sports, extra-curricular activities. But, as you say, how do you convince young coverts to "come out" when they too have experienced the consequences of stuttering ?
