I am a graduate student currently enrolled in a required fluency class at Southern University in Louisiana. I was also required to have an undergraduate fluency class along with a required number of clinical hours in fluency before graduating. I, like many others who have commented, was surprised to learn that this was a rare occurrence. However, ASHA standards and course requirements aside, I personally feel that as a SLP one has an obligation to seek more training in areas in which they feel inadequate. Those who where not required to take a course in fluency and feel apprehensive or ineffective when working with clients who are dysfluent should seek training on there own. I do feel that this is a proble and am very glad that I am able to attend classes on fluency. Thank you for shedding no such an important subject.
