I would like to thank Russ, Patti and Jim for sharing a part of their journey with the rest of us. I am a school based slp, like Patti, and I believe your stories will help to open minds and help one look for the possibilities that are available whenever one is ready to take the step. Like Patti, I am at a new school this year, working with high school students, and I can see that the notion of controlling and eliminating the stuttering behaviors continues to be the focus for some kids and their families. I do hope it doesn't take 40 years to help them see that going with the flow (and even advertising) will perhaps get them farther in reaching their goals than a constant, covert struggle to be in control with the disorder.
