I am a student in a speech-language pathology master's program. I am currently taking a class called Stuttering Seminar, and I found your paper very inspirational. I was saddened at the beginning to see how your stuttering, and most importantly, your desire to hide it, affected your youth. Even your parents thought that you were just a quiet kid. I think this is a big lesson for therapists to realize and incorperate into their therapy. The therapists have to understand that their clients may not really acting (personality-wise)the way they truly are. If this is the case, clients must be counseled as to the fact that hiding their stuttering is not a good thing. They will feel much more comfortable with themselves if it is open and even discussed. Your life, the way you took a situation that could have been negative and turned it into a positive experience along with a positive attitude, is an inspiration to those who stutter and those who don't alike. I'm sure many who stutter found it very helpful to have a teacher and therapist who really understood.
