Dear Mr. Breitenfeldt,
it is very interesting to read about the development of your speech during your life. In some parts it reminds me my speech but my story is not so interesting. I am also stutterer, I have been stuttering for four decades. I still stutter severely in difficult situations. In the past there was very little information about stuttering in my country (Czech republic). Now it is a little better thanks to internet. You mentioned “lucky fluency”. Whenever I got more fluency in the past, I felt uncertain, because I had had bad practice in controlling my severe blocks. I felt like going on thin ice because I felt that it is only temporary effect. So I say, the fluency is for me the journey to hell. The better way is to stutter easily and not to find the fluency. But it lasted me all my life to get this attitude to my stuttering. You also mentioned your difficulty with conversational speech. I have the same problems with normal conversation because I have very little practice in speaking as a child and teenager. I almost did not speak when I was young. Could I contact you later to get more information about your SSMP? And could I have your permission to translate your article into Czech and give it to my fellow stutterers from our self-help group (the only one in our country)? Thank you.
Kind regards,
Jiri Mazoch
