I coined the term "Chronic Perseverative Stuttering Syndrome" in 1985 when writing about my thoughts that behaviorally-oriented treatment programs too frequently set unobtainable fluency goals for many of our clients. An individual does not have to possess all of the factors I list to warrent the "label." For a more thorough discussion of "CPS" I refer you to our most recent publication "Cooper Personalized Fluency Control Therapy - Adolescent and Adult Version" published by ProEd (2003).
Thanks for your interest.
