I had wanted to get back to your message, Katie, and add to it before you picked up my answer. What I wanted to say was that if MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) ruled against Brandon, then he "might" be out of luck. All enlistees, regardless of branch of service, MUST go through the medical and testing evaluation of MEPS. So if it was only his active Army recruiter that said "no," than he might have a chance. I WOULD STILL RUN IT BY the Army Guard recruiter. BTW: The difference between the Army Guard and the Army Reserve is that the Guard also has state functions (emergencies) that they might handle -- so therefore you pick up ADDITIONALLY any benefits your State provides to its soldiers (extra $ for college, e.g.) Guard units, on the other hand, are where primarily all the combat units (infantry, artillery, armor, Special Forces, aviation, etc.) are -- which is want most testerone-ridden teenage boys want anyway (LOL); whereas the Reserves tend to have more Combat Support functions (medical; postal; water purification; etc.) However, this is not true in every case.
