What would I say to any parent who is suffering that kind of grief and despair? I would tell them to hold on regardless; because the light does come back into your life. I would say that especially to the man because it is he who is more likely to become estranged from the family due to non-acceptance of the situation. The maternal bond can survive almost anything but to see a mother bringing up a profoundly disabled child alone is heartbreaking. At times it can be almost unbearable for a couple. How much harder must it be for a single parent?
I hope that makes sense.
