Sheri - I agree. And we won't know what's going on inside until we become calibrated to them. Even then we have to guess sometimes. Understand their experience with stuttering is essential if we are to guess right. But even it we don't we can show them that it is possible to be less inhibited and to make mistakes. Peopole who stutter are pretty tough (as others including Van Riper have said). Don't be inhibited or worry about doing damage for fear of doing or trying the wrong. Unless someone is an insensitive jerk (and there are some of those around of course)you are not likely to create any problems as you explore the potential of a humorous interpretation of the stiuation or problem.
