Michelle, I agree with you completely in having the parents part of a successful handling of sensitive children who stutter. I suspect that offering two books (although other books exist) on successfully dealing with sensitive children who stutter would be the most helpful way to answer your question. I particularly like the suggestions in Elaine Aron's The Highly Sensitive Child (© 2002) and Janet Poland's The Sensitive Child (© 1995). Personally, I would strive to help the parents (and the child) to understand what sensitivity is, and some of the challenges that being sensitive provide. Parents can do much to help a highly sensitive child to thrive with that characteristic. We usually need to offer a buffer to successfully deal with the experience of sensory bombardment when the child is highly sensitive although there is much more to understand. It is a fascinating journey, and we need to learn about sensitivity to help support parents to successfully raise a highly successful child.
