You mention not talking to family or friends about your stutter when you were younger. I am curious whether your parents tried to talk to you or did they hold the belief that they were to "ignore" your stutter in order to keep from making it worse? Many adults who stutter have told me to be sure to have parents acknowledge the disfluency in their children's speech. They have told me that "ignoring" just leads to more fear on the child's part. One PWS gave me the analogy of ignoring a child 's cast on a broken arm to ignoring a child's struggle to get his words out.
