In reading the article "Counseling Parents of Children Who Stutter" I found myself asking the question, "Are students getting the appropriate education currently? Should students be taking more courses focusing on the counselor roll that the SLP should play?" I am an undergrad at Western Washington University and I hope to go on to study Audiology and one day receive my AuD. I would expect that during the years of graduate school students studying to be a SLP or Aud. would be appropriately instructed on effective ways to play the counselor roll. Am I wrong in assuming so? Should students today be getting a more collaborative education with instruction on how to be an effective counselor included in the current curriculum? P.S. I'm sorry about the previous post; I was a little premature with the return button on my key board.
