Hillary, Thanks for your thoughtful posting. It is always a good idea to collaborate with colleagues, especially those in related fields. Be sure to establish a good working relationship when you collaborate. Often this will mean that you need to "educate" the other professional about stuttering, because few non-SLPs understand the emotional/attitudinal elements of stuttering. We also need to recognize when the people we treat need more specific counseling in areas not related to communication. When that occurs, referral to an experienced psychological counselor is a must. Remember that we are not psychologists. Thanks for the excellent questions. Good luck in your career goals.
