Amanda--Thanks for the post! Appreciate your reading of the article. Real stuttering is so much more than what happens with the mouth! And yet most often the mouth is all that is focused on. Stuttering is easy to cure....Just don't talk. I have found it to be deadly to the CWS/TWS to put the main focus on what happens with the mouth. The NSA has a saying -- "It's OK to Stutter". I always share with other clinicians that this is true. Many professionals include "BUT" after the statement. I tell TWS to always question anyone who says there is a "BUT"... I have to be ok as I am before I can make any changes for myself, and the "BUT" sends a double message. CWS and TWS are not ignorant...they recognize the double message sent with the "BUT". I would encourage you to attend a FRIENDS or NSA conference. The real "experts" are there, and believe me when I say they will teach you and help you learn about stuttering and how to treat it in such a positive and impacting manner. Thanks for participating in the conference...You will be a better professional as a result!
