Cassie....Thanks so much for your review of the paper. I have to give credit to Joe D. for the actual writing of the article itself. He did a wonderful job of putting our thoughts down on paper! Client/Therapist trust is of the utmost importance, specially when dealing with CWS and their parents. "Therapuetic Listening" establishes this trust. It has been my experience that CWS desire to be listened to for their message, and not for how they say it! Once they find a "Real Listener", they definitely attend to that listener. They attend and engage in conversations with those who demonstrate "real listening". That is why I spend so much time with parents demonstrating/modeling/educating & helping them to learn how to "listen" rather than "evaluate how the CWS speaks". And that is one heck of a job for the professional! And I extend this learning of "listeneing" to any other identified significant listener's. CWS want to be heard for their message, even if they stutter. CWS -- as well as all children -- are a gift. The Gift demands/deserves the right to be listened to...no matter what! Thanks for your question, and being involved in the conference. Our profession will profit greatly by having future professionals like you in it. Keep Learning!
