Cathy....Thanks for your review and sharing of your excellent insight regarding listening to people in one's life. For CWS and their parents, it is an essential, yet neglected, skill that the professional must share and utilize if to avoid the ultimate stuttering behavior...chosen silence. Listening is a learned behavior. Our professional preparation for this absolutely needed skill is sadly lacking at the majority of universities in Communication Disorders. You young future professionals can learn these skills...in fact, it's been my observation that you want to learn these skills, but our professional preparation at the university levels fail miserably in doing this. I don't know about the old dogs learning new tricks, but I do know the puppies want to learn...if we will just teach them! Thanks for being part of the conference. The CWS and their parents you have the honor of working with in the future will profit greatly by your application of the knowledge utilizing "Therapuetic Listening".
