Judy, I freely admit that this project takes an organizational "freak"! :) Seriously, I started the project by recruiting a team of talented and interested professionals in the Cincinnati area. I could not coordinate the program without them. We recruit our CWS through our local professional organization, our own caseloads, advertising (using free public service ads), and local school district email services. We also keep a master mailing list of those who have attended or shown interest. Our previous supervisors often refer new students. As for smaller communities, we also started small...one day and 26 cws. We simply started that first year and asked ourselves "what are the possibilities for this year?" I have encouraged therapists functioning in local school districts to have smaller interactions for their students who stutter. One of our therapists has organized a Teen group from those who have attended FFP. They have met a few times. Members of our team have been called or asked to consult on cases in the area. These are some of the ways a program like this can grow. The universities also look at this program a win-win for their students. They can promote this unique clinical experience for their students and the students find this experience to be very valuable to them in addition to their more formal classroom experience. We have also been instrumental in helping a local slp work towards her Specialty Recognition. Sorry for the long winded answer, but I would encourage others to work towards an intensive treatment experience. Our program has been four years in the works, and the possibilities continue to surprize us!
