Hi again Dick, Yes, that teasing question would be a very interesting one to investigate. Senator Joe Biden, our main keynote speaker in Baltimore this year, was teased a lot growing up. He excelled in sports in an effort to compensate for that. It's also possible that I was teased too and have simply erased those unpleasant memories from my mind. My own father has a tendency to do just that and I may have inherited that characteristic. He remembers World War II as a time of high adventure and great fun! He all but dismisses all the horrors of that time. I recently realized that and am totally amazed at how he can do that. Do I do that too? I just don't know... Fluency is not a goal - for ME. I can hold my own - maybe even moreso - in any conversation, any time, any place with anyone, stuttering and all. To me, that gives me an enormous amount of confidence. But fluency is important to SOME (most?) people, just not me. Stuttering has given me the opportunity do things that a fluent person would never have been able to do. We've talked about the "gift of stuttering" and if anyone has ever received that gift, it's been me. I'd love to share those stories with you someday. Our NSA chapter meets the last Tuesday of every month down at the Callier Center (UT/D) here in Dallas. We'd love to have you visit us sometime if you're in town. Your reputation definitely precedes you! Our web site is http://www.geocities.com/dallasnsa/ so you can see all the details there. We look forward to your visit! My best to you and your students!
